Our Veterans and the USS Constitution “Old Ironsides”

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

Last September our family took a trip to Boston for the wedding of our son Terry and his wife Katie.  One of the highlights of that trip was a visit to see the USS Constitution “Old Ironside” at the Charlestown Navy Yard, in Charlestown, MA.  It is currently under restoration.  The Constitution is under restoration?  Hmmmm….  Just think the very battle for our freedoms in which “Ironsides” earned her name happend almost 200 years ago in the war of “1812″.  I am not a believer in coincidences, but of destiny.  There is a reason this ship earned her name and it is not because cannon balls couldn’t sink her, it is because the sailors and officers of this country believed in our freedoms.

Just like there is a restoration process by the people of this country to get us back on our Constitutional track.  Our men and women in the military do not clothe themselves in uniforms, but in their love for their country and for the Constitution.  This love is “Iron”.  No enemy can defeat it.

“In the course of this 35-minute battle, an astonished sailor observed British 18-lb. iron cannonballs, bouncing harmlessly off USS CONSTITUTION’s 25-inch oak hull, and he cried out, “Huzza! Her sides are made of iron!” Henceforth, USS CONSTITUTION carried the nickname “Old Ironsides.””

This web site has many stories telling of the USS Constituions victorious battles.   It is absolutely amazing how many of these accounts parrell the battles that have been fought against our Constition to this very day.  It is truly remarkable but not surprising that these battles are and always will be won by the sailors, marines, soldiers, officers of all ranks, not by elite politicians.  Read the Declaration of Independence.  Many of the offenses against the people then are the same that are being perpetrated now.  (speaking of the King of England) “He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.” (today’s Czars?)  The battle for freedom is always up close and personal.  It must be fought face to face with the enemy.  The enemy must be brought down completely, or we will suffer more loss of freedom than if we had done nothing.  We have in the past always earned the respect of our enemy because we fight until we have defeated them.  As you read these stories instead of seeing a ship see the Constitution of the United States.

Amendment I: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The Bobby Schilling for Congress campaign chartered a bus and took 35 people to experience the day. Each person received a copy of The Constitution of the United States, a Bobby Schilling for Congress T-shirt, bumper sticker and yard sign. Of course The Constitution was the hit of the party! Thank you Heritage Foundation for providing these copies at $.50 ea. (You can stop by headquarters and pick up a copy for yourself). Every one should have at least one copy and read it every day. Just five minutes a day will help all of us understand our liberties and the limitations that were placed on our government. Reading the Declaration of Independence will also help us understand these things. I know that when I read these documents my heart is filled with love and pride for our Country. The people who founded our Country were just normal people. Farmers, educators, inventors, silver smiths, (Paul Revere made spoons) etc… They were people like you and me who loved God, Country, family and neighbor. You can’t read these documents and not realize it, and not realize that they were guided by a power far greater than themselves. They literally put their necks on the line for you and I to live free and have life abundantly (back then there was public hangings and decapitation for treason). In 1775 addressing the assembly about the Stamp Tax, Patrick Henry said “If this be treason than make the most of it!”. I was once told that our founding fathers would be turning in their grave at knowing what our government has become. I think that they would be turning in their grave at seeing that we have let our government get this powerful. They gave us the power and the duty to see to it that our government did not grow to this magnitude. The Declaration of Independence lays it out very clearly and carefully. Do not take these documents lightly they were written for us and many have sacrificed even their very life to ensure that we would have these liberties secured. Remember “No greater love has he, than he who lays down his life for his friends”. Our founding fathers were not thinking of their securities and liberties they were thinking of ours!

John 12:24 Amen, Amen, I say unto you unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.

Isn’t it overwhelming that today we are living and breathing the fruits of the blood shed for our Liberties.

I thank you Veterans who served God and Country for my sake and for the sake of my family, without even knowing our names, so that we could wake up every morning and freely express our religion.

And make no mistake about it, we are a nation under God! With God as our banner there is no enemy who can defeat us!

Thank you Veterans for preserving our right to assembly, and freedom of speech so that we can speak freely and openly on truth and morals with out fear.

Thank you Veterans for preserving our right to defend our homes and children from evil with our right to bear arms.

Thank you for defending our right to bear children.

Thank you veterans for preserving our right of freedom of enterprise so that we can make the best pizza in the world.

Thank you too for preserving our right to set down our tool belt and run for political office!

I take the sacrifice of our veterans as a personal sacrifice for me and my family, as we all should.

Andrew Jackson said in his farewell address in 1837
“But you must remember, my fellow citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of Liberty and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing. It behooves you, therefore, to be watchful in your states as well as in your federal government.”

(behoove: be somebody’s duty, be somebody’s bounden duty, fall to somebody, befit, be incumbent upon somebody (formal), be appropriate for, be fitting for)

It is our duty then, when we see that our government is acting against the best interest of our nation, we must stand up, set down our tool belt and fight for the freedoms that tyranny always seeks to tear away.

My husband Bobby and I realized that we can no longer complain of what others do, we must take action to get our country back on our Constitutional track.

I want our veterans to know that Bobby has taken responsible advantage of the rights that they have preserved for us.

We know that our veterans hearts are heavy with the vocation that God has set upon them, and we pray for them everyday. God loves that you have answered your call to duty and a great reward awaits you.

My husband is the reality of the freedoms you sacrificed for. Hard work, perseverance, and fiscal responsibility equal prosperity that only our country can provide. The prosperity that our veterans have preserved for us.

With the help of his sons, they built our Pizza business from the ground up. Doing most of the labor himself. After getting a bid on the plumbing, it was running way over budget, he decided to dig the 6ft deep, 20ft long trench for a drainage pipe. He applies this kind of strategy to all that he does. If he can do it for less without compromising the quality he does it.

When we built our home Bobby and the boys did most of the work. Towards the end he was tired and really ready to let someone else take over. He got a bid for the soffit and it was going to cost 2000.00. He priced out the materials, and did it himself for 700.00. Bobby and the boys built the equity into our home and our business with their brains and brawn. I know that he will do the same when it comes to our country and your tax dollars.

Fiscal responsibility is engrained into his character.

A long with being fiscally responsible he has a truly generous spirit. If he sees a need he scrapes together what he can and gives ‘til it hurts. He doesn’t apologize for this he just says “Don’t worry honey, it’s only money and I can always make more!” His generosity is done in a quiet manner, he really tries hard not to tell his left hand what his right hand is doing.

My husband is a man of un apologetic faith and lives his life that way. He has raised our children to be the same. They are not afraid to speak up when they see an injustice, whether it is in the hallway at school, in our community, country or world.

When he was visiting with Brad Halbrook from Shelby county: Brad told him we are pretty simple down here, there are three things we need from you if you want our vote; Jesus, babies, and guns” Bobby replied, “Well I go to church at least once a week, I’ve got 9 children, and I have 6 pistols and two rifles”.

He has raised our children to be truth seekers. Bobby doesn’t settle for the information fed to him, and neither do they. If Bobby has a question or is unsure of something he digs in researches and finds the truth.

If some one tells him something that isn’t true about his faith, his country, the constitution, taxes, what ever it is, he looks it up! Bobby confronts falsehoods with the facts.

Bobby is rooted in his love for God, his country and his family and neighbors. He loves hard work and loves to dedicate himself to things greater than himself. He wants what is best for all. That is why my husband is running for congress. With prayer and perseverance we will get this done!
