Schilling Responds to Rep. Hare on Debates

08/29/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District, responded to Rep. Hare on his debate revision with the following statement:

"While I am pleased that Rep. Hare has agreed to debate, only two hours of debate doesn't do justice for a district that encompasses over 650,000 people in five media markets. As soon as we receive their formal letter, our campaign will give it the due diligence that it warrants and we will respond to the appropriate parties before we make any official decisions."

Schilling: "Stimulus Hasn't Put Illinois to Work"

08/29/2010
BLS: Illinois has lost 171,100 jobs since stimulus passed in Feb. 2009

EAST MOLINE, IL--When the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act passed in February 2009, the Obama Administration projected that the bill would create 3.7 million jobs by December 2010, including 148,000 new jobs in Illinois. This has not happened. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 2.6 millions jobs have been lost since the $787 billion stimulus package's passage, a net difference of 6.3 million jobs. Illinois has lost 171,100 jobs since the bill's passage, a net difference of 319,100 jobs.

Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, believes these numbers are indicative of the failure of the stimulus bill.

"It's been 18 months since the passage of the stimulus, and we're still waiting for these new jobs," Schilling said. "Actually, we've lost more jobs. We spent $787 billion our country couldn't afford on a bill that made a bad economic situation worse. People are starting to realize that raising taxes and spending excessively is not the way out of a recession. It's time for representation that will do what it takes to bring jobs to the 17th District. I will fight for low taxes, for fiscal responsibility, and for the needs of the people of this district."

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, graduated from Alleman High School and attended Black Hawk College. Schilling, a local business owner, is the Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District in Illinois. Bobby is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real representation back to the 17th District. Earlier this year, Schilling conducted a 34-city "Bob's for Jobs" tour, where he met with voters and employers all across the 17th District.

Bobby Schilling: Rep. Hare and I Have Very Different Versions of Winning

08/27/2010
" The big win, from my perspective, is health care."
-Rep. Phil Hare, August 17, on his major accomplishments in Congress this year.

Thanks to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act....................

Our national deficit will continue to grow. Just a month after the bill passed the Congressional Budget Office announced it would actually cost $115 billion more than previously thought, bringing the total cost to more than $1 trillion.

Higher taxes will be imposed on small businesses. While politicians like Rep. Hare claim to be fighting for small business, the real business owners, like those represented by the non-partisan National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), were not so easily fooled. "The fundamental mission of our organization is to promote and protect the rights of small businesses and the self-employed to own, operate and grow their business and this health care law directly undermines this core value," wrote the NFIB president in a statement following the vote. The NFIB joined the 20 other states in the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the bill.

More people will lose jobs. In a study published several months before the vote, the non-partisan Illinois Policy Institute predicted the bill would cost Illinois 169,000 jobs. Newly added provisions in the bill are expected to significantly increase this number. Major employers in the17th district like Caterpillar and John Deere will see their costs rise by $100 million and $150 million respectively, in the first year alone. Why would any company hire workers when their costs are increasing by hundreds of millions of dollars? They won't.

Our quality of care will decrease. Rep. Hare assured the 8 in 10 Americans happy with their health care they would be able to keep their current plans. However, according to the Associated Press, the Obama Administration itself, "estimates that many employers will be forced to make changes to their health plans under the new law. In just three years, a majority of workers-51 percent-will be in plans subject to new federal requirements." In addition, the Obama Administration has acknowledged that "health insurance plans that are now offered by small businesses probably will not survive the transition to a regulated marketplace."

Our cost of care will increase. Obamacare imposes billions of dollars in annual fees and taxes on drug manufacturers, prescription drug importers, and health insurance plans. Moreover, the bill establishes new taxes on certain retail sales by manufacturers and importers of medical devices. According to The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) these fees and taxes, "would generally be passed through to health consumers in the form of higher drug and device prices and higher insurance premiums.

Seniors will see major cuts in Medicare. The most drastic cuts ($132 billion), will be made to the popular Medicare Advantage program. Additionally, Medicare payments for home health care will be reduced by $40 billion and payments to certain hospitals will be cut by $22 billion.

Schilling: "Taxpayer Money Should Not Fund Campaign Literature"

08/24/2010
Rep. Hare spent $114,028 for full-color campaign mailings

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, recently chastised Rep. Phil Hare for using taxpayer money for political use. Rep. Hare's chief of staff, Thomas O'Donnell, told the State Journal-Register that Rep. Hare spent $114,028 at the taxpayers' expense for 247,000 full-color campaign mailings distributed to households across the district.

"Campaigns should be funded by donors and political parties, not the American taxpayer," Schilling said. "We're facing a massive budget deficit and one of the worst recessions in recent memory, yet Rep. Hare felt it was appropriate to send the 17th District pictures of himself on the taxpayers' dime. Enough is enough. I believe that every taxpayer dollar should be used to the fullest. This type of extravagance has gone on far too long, and it's time for a change. On November 2nd, we will return fiscal responsibility to Washington."

Congressional Budget Office Warns "Difficult Times Ahead"

08/24/2010
Schilling: "We cannot continue down the road of failed policy."

EAST MOLINE, IL--While speaking about the economic recovery, Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf warned that the economy would not begin to approach full employment until 2014. He also spoke on the specifics of our recession.

Via Reuters: "The considerable number of vacant houses and underused factories and offices will be a continuing drag on residential construction and business investment, and slow income growth as well as lost wealth will restrain consumer spending," Elmendorf said.

Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District, said that Congress deserves part of the blame for our stagnant economy.

"We cannot continue down the road of failed policy," Schilling said. "We've seen what higher taxes and out of control spending have done to our economy. There is an incredible amount of uncertainty among small business owners, and they aren't going to consider expansion or new hires because of it. We need to get back to the core principle that makes the American economy work: putting money in the pockets of the consumer. My opponent has never seen a tax increase or spending bill he didn't like, and that mindset is an affront to hard-working Americans."

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, graduated from Alleman High School and attended Black Hawk College. Schilling Hosts Rock Island Town Hall

08/24/2010
"Solutions for the 17th" town hall to be held Thursday, August 26 in Longview Park at 6pm
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District, will be hosting the first "Solutions for the 17th" town hall at Longview Park in Rock Island on Thursday, August 26 at 6pm. Schilling will speak on several topics and then open up for a Q&A session. The event will be held in the large shelter at Longview Park in west Rock Island. Schilling is excited to open the "Solutions for the 17th" town hall tour in a familiar place.

"I grew up in west Rock Island, so it's great to have a town hall on my old stomping grounds," Schilling said. "I'm excited to discuss my vision with the people of Rock Island and hear their concerns. The people of this district have been ignored for long enough. Unlike my opponent, I believe that, in order to be an effective Congressman, you must listen to the voice of the people who elect you. I have pledged to provide constituent services that are second to none, and I look forward to doing town halls throughout my tenure as a Congressman when I am elected November 2nd."

Schilling Releases Statement on Blagojevich Verdict

08/19/2010
Former Illinois Governor found guilty on 1 of 24 counts
EAST MOLINE, IL--After 14 days of deliberation following an 11-week trial, a federal jury found former Democrat governor Rod Blagojevich guilty of lying to the FBI, a charge that carries a maximum five year prison sentence. However, the guilty ruling was just one of 24 counts brought against Blagojevich which included racketeering, conspiracy, mail fraud and an attempt to sell President Obama's vacant Senate seat to the highest bidder. Due to a hung jury, the federal judge will declare a mistrial on the other 23 counts. State prosecutors promise to begin a retrial as soon as possible.

Bobby Schilling, candidate for Congress in the 17th District in Illinois, released the following statement on the ruling:

"I respect the judicial process and the civic duty performed by the men and women on the Blagojevich jury," Schilling said. "It's important to remember that a hung jury is not an acquittal, and our former governor is now officially a convicted felon. U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald has made it clear that there will be a retrial of Rod Blagojevich. Justice has been delayed, but it has not been denied for the people of Illinois. We must reflect on what has happened to our state under the pay-to-play rule of Rod Blagojevich and the Chicago Democrat machine. On November 2nd, we have a chance to chart a new course for our state and for our nation. It's time to usher in a new era of leadership by electing men and women who will serve with integrity and honor."

Schilling Challenges Rep. Hare to Four Debates

08/19/2010
Schilling: "It's time for Hare to own up to his record."

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District, has officially challenged Rep. Phil Hare to four debates to be held in Springfield, Macomb, Quincy, and the Quad Cities. The Schilling campaign said that the reason for the four debates is that it would give voters in all areas of the district a chance to attend or watch. Schilling said that he hopes that Rep. Hare would oblige the voters with a debate on the issues and record.

"The voters of the 17th District deserve an open and honest debate," said Schilling. "Since 2006, the unemployment rate has doubled, the national debt has grown by over $5 trillion and the tax burden for the middle class has become insurmountable. Our nation has major problems facing it and the voters deserve to hear our plans to solve them. For the past year and a half, our campaign has sent out dozens of press releases focusing on the issues and I hope that as the election heats up, we can focus on our record, accomplishments and plans for the country."

Schilling Announces "Solutions for the 17th" Town Halls

08/19/2010
Town Halls to be held in the Quad Cities, Macomb, Galesburg, Aledo, Quincy, Monmouth, Canton, Carlinville, Springfield, and Decatur

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, announced his plan to hold multiple town halls throughout the district before November 2nd. The "Solutions for the 17th" Town Halls will be held in the Quad Cities, Macomb, Galesburg, Aledo, Quincy, Monmouth, Canton, Carlinville, Springfield, and Decatur. These town halls will be open to the public.

"I want to share my vision with the people of the 17th District," Schilling said. "At the same time, I want to hear their concerns. The current representative of this district refuses to hold town halls because he doesn't want to explain his record to the people he represents. I have promised that as a Congressman I will provide constituent service that is second to none. I believe that includes holding regular town halls across the district. A true statesman listens to the people he represents, and I intend to do just that."

The Schilling campaign is currently working to finalize the scheduling on the town halls. However, the following town halls are officially set:

August 26 - Longview Park, Rock Island, 6pm
September 2 - Illinois City Community Center, Illinois City, 7pm
September 7 - Lake Storey, Galesburg, 4:30pm
October 18 - Rock Falls Community Building, Rock Falls, 7pm

Federal Budget Deficit Exceeds $165 Billion in July

08/19/2010
Schilling: "It's time for fiscal responsibility in Washington."

EAST MOLINE, IL--According to a recent report in the Wall Street Journal, the federal budget deficit exceeded $165 billion in July. This was the second highest monthly deficit on record. Last July, the government recorded the highest monthly deficit ever with a budget shortfall of $180.68 billion. The government has now run a deficit for 22 straight months. Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, spoke on the issue.

"It's frustrating to watch Congress dig a bigger and bigger hole for our nation," Schilling said. "It's time for fiscal responsibility in Washington. Last month, we paid nearly $20 billion in interest payments on our debt. Our national debt will hit $14 trillion by the end of the year, which is the size of our gross domestic product. We cannot continue down this road of unsustainable deficit spending. Congress is pushing an irresponsible agenda with no regard for our children's future, and that is something we must stop on November 2nd."

Schilling-Hare in Virtual Tie in Latest Poll

08/09/2010
"Schilling is well positioned to beat Hare this November"

EAST MOLINE, IL--Public Opinion Strategies, a national political and public affairs research firm, recently released the results of a survey in the Illinois 17th Congressional District, which showed a dead heat between Rep. Phil Hare, Democrat, and his Republican challenger, Bobby Schilling. According to the poll, Schilling was within 2 points of Hare, with a margin of error of +/- 5.66%. This is the second poll to come out in recent weeks, showing that this particular Congressional race has become extremely competitive.

"While he has not appeared on any of the media's lists of the most endangered incumbents, it is
clear that Phil Hare is among the most vulnerable incumbents in the country," said pollster, Glen Bolger of Public Opinion Strategies. "With an underwhelming image, an upside down re-elect, and a stunningly low ballot score, it is difficult to see a path to victory for the incumbent Congressman. Conversely, Republican Bobby Schilling has built a grassroots campaign that is continuing to gain momentum. As a result, Schilling is well positioned to defeat Hare this November."

Schilling said that his campaign will continue to bring their message throughout the district and focus on their plans to move this country forward in the right direction.

"Our campaign will continue forward by bringing our ideas of lower spending, lower taxes and more jobs across the district," said Schilling. "We have a great team of volunteers working to change the direction of this country. Our campaign would be no where without them. I hope that, as this race heats up even more, Rep. Hare will start talking about the actual issues facing the voters of the 17th district. The voters deserve to know the truth about where their congressman stands on the issues. They should have the best representation in Congress, which is what I plan to do for them if elected."

Schilling to Hare: 131,000 Jobs Lost Is Not Emerging From Crisis

08/09/2010
Schilling reacts to July jobs report

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District, reacted to the recently released July jobs report by the US Labor Department. The report showed that 131,000 jobs were lost last month.

"This is unacceptable," Schilling said. "The policies that Congress has promoted simply haven't worked. It's been 18 months since the stimulus package was passed, and we have yet to see any results from it. These people don't know how to create jobs or stimulate an economy. It's time to get people back to work, yet Congress continues to promote policies that are causing people to be laid off."

Schilling also referenced a recent report showing that a full recovery will not happen with our current policies. According to the Economic Policy Institute, even if the country were to sustain the strongest pace of job growth seen in the boom of the late 1990s (2.6% in 1998), it would still take until 2015 to return to pre-recession levels of unemployment. The much slower rate of growth seen in recent months suggests that without a change in policy, unemployment will remain high for years to come.

"I believe the people of the 17th District are ready for a representative that will fight for them," Schilling said. "Unlike my opponent, I will not support tax increases during a recession. I will not vote for wasteful spending bills that will cost the taxpayer billions of dollars. My policies will help us recover from this recession. My opponent's policies have made a bad situation worse. I think the choice is clear."

Rep. Phil Hare recently said that our economy is "emerging" from the worst of the economic crisis. Schilling Communications Director Jon Schweppe questioned the legitimacy of that claim.

"Once again, Rep. Hare is trying to take credit for a recovery that hasn't happened yet," Schweppe said. "In my mind, it's unconscionable to even consider a tax increase during a recession, yet Congress is promoting the largest tax increase in American history in 2011. That tax increase is going to cost our country millions of jobs. We need to send these people home in November and elect representatives who will actually serve their constituents."

Rep. Hare Complies with Schilling's Request

08/07/2010
Gives $7,000 in tainted Rangel contributions to charity

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District, applauded Rep. Hare for conceding $7,000 in tainted contributions from embattled Congressman Charles Rangel and donating that money to the National Fragile X Foundation. Schilling issued a challenge to Rep. Hare to relinquish the money last Tuesday.

"I'm glad that Rep. Hare did the right thing," Schilling said. "Rep. Rangel has been violating tax laws and committing ethics violations for years, and it finally caught up to him. I think the American people have seen enough corruption from the ruling class in Washington. This November, we need to elect representatives who will be statesmen and serve the people of this country over themselves."

Schilling Stands With Missouri

08/07/2010
Prop C passes with 71% of vote; Missouri says no to federal healthcare mandates

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th district, recently spoke on the passage of Prop C in Missouri. Prop C, also known as the Missouri Healthcare Freedom Act, blocks the federal government from requiring people to buy health insurance, and bans the ability to levy financial punishment upon those who do not purchase health insurance. Prop C is the first time voters in the United States have had a referendum on the recently passed healthcare bill.

"There is a clear disconnect between members of Congress and the American people, and the overwhelming passage of Prop C demonstrates that," Schilling said. "The people of Missouri exercised their freedom to show that they do not want this level of government involvement in their lives. We must work to repeal this bill and replace it with legislation that will address the real healthcare concerns of the American people."

Schilling argued that the new healthcare bill is doing more harm than good.

"There are better ways to improve our healthcare system," Schilling said. "We need to bring costs down by enacting tort reform and allowing the sale of insurance across state lines. We also need to address the problems people with pre-existing conditions face. The bill passed last spring didn't do that. That bill was called reform, but it was really just a giant tax increase coupled with a large subsidy to insurance companies. I know that our nation can do much better than that."

Schilling Requests Rep. Hare to Relinquish Rangel's Tainted Contributions

08/03/2010
Rep. Hare received $7,000 from embattled Congressman Charles Rangel in 2006.

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th district, recently called on his opponent, Rep. Phil Hare (D-IL), to relinquish the $7,000 he received in campaign contributions from Rep. Charles Rangel in 2006. Rep. Hare received two individual donations from Rep. Rangel's congressional campaign and Rep. Rangel's National Leadership PAC in 2006 totaling $7,000.

"Those donations are tainted contributions from a corrupt politician," Schilling said. "Rep. Rangel has been violating tax laws and House rules for years. Most of the politicians who have received money from Rep. Rangel are now giving it up, and Rep. Hare should do the same. There are plenty of fine charities in the 17th district that could use the $7,000, and I challenge Rep. Hare to do the right thing and surrender that money."

Rep. Rangel has faced a series of ethics violations and failures to follow tax laws. In July, Rep. Rangel was charged with 13 counts of violating House rules and federal laws.

Schilling 'humbled' to receive hero's endorsement
EAST MOLINE, IL--John F. Baker Jr., Congressional Medal of Honor, Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient and former Quad-Citian, recently endorsed Bobby Schilling, the Republican candidate for Congress in the Ilinois 17th District, in his bid to unseat Rep. Phil Hare. Baker said that he is backing Schilling because he believes that he is "committed to America." Schilling said he was "humbled" to have received the endorsement of an American hero.

"I am extremely humbled to have received the endorsement of John Baker," said Schilling. "Mr. Baker served his country with honor and dignity and did so in a heroic way. This is the most important endorsement that I could have asked for. I am truly humbled."

Schilling said that when elected, he would make the veterans the number one priority in his office.

Cook Political Report Moves 17th District from "Solid D"

07/29/2010
Prognosticators Up the Odds for a Schilling Victory in November
EAST MOLINE, IL--The Cook Political Report, an independent non-partisan newsletter that analyzes Federal elections, announced Thursday that it changed its rating for the 17th District of Illinois from "Solid D" to "Likely D." Bobby Schilling, the Republican candidate for the district's Congressional seat, released the following statement:

"We've been working hard to get our message out to the people of this district. We had a solid second quarter of fundraising, and now we're leading in the polls. I believe that there's a lot of work to do before November, but we are definitely moving in the right direction. The support for our campaign has been tremendous, and the national pundits are beginning to pick up on that."

The Cook Political Report is not the only source that has taken note of Schilling's rise in the polls. Real Clear Politics has recently changed IL-17 from 'Safe Dem' to 'Likely Dem,' and the NRCC has promoted Schilling to "Contender" status in its Young Guns program.

Terry Schilling, campaign manager for the Bobby Schilling campaign, believes these ratings are a sign of good things to come.

"We have been overwhelmed with support from the people of the 17th district who are worried by the 10% unemployment and stagnant economy in our area of the country." said Terry Schilling. "We want to bring effective representation for our district to Washington."

Hare Switches Stance on Bringing Gitmo Detainees to U.S.

07/29/2010
Schilling applauds Hare for 'seeing the light'

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District of Illinois, applauded Representative Phil Hare for switching his vote and voting against bringing Guantanamo Bay detainees to the United States. Hare voted in support of the Gingrey amendment to a military appropriations bill, H.R. 5822, that blocks all funding to house Gitmo detainees in the United States. Schilling said that he is gratified that Hare reversed himself and is now doing what is best for the people of his district.
"I think that it's great that Rep. Hare is following our lead in opposing Gitmo detainees being housed on U.S. soil," said Schilling. "Closing down Guantanamo Bay and bringing the detainees to Northwest Illinois was a terrible idea and I am glad that Rep. Hare has seen the light. My hope is that he also changes his position on supporting on taxpayer funded bailouts, cap and trade, and the rapid increase in government spending."

Rep. Hare initially supported bringing Gitmo detainees to Thomson Prison and even called opponents of the measure "fear mongers," going so far as to tell Chris Matthews that he was going to work to shut down Guantanamo Bay.

Schilling Statement on Optometrists

07/29/2010
Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, issued the following statement on the Harkin amendment and it's effect on optometrists:

“While I disagree with the large majority of the recently passed healthcare law, I do support sections of the bill that end discrimination against optometrists, nurse practitioners, podiatrists and other specialists. These provisions will increase competition among health care providers and empower patients to seek out care from the doctor of their choice. I would not support repealing the Harkin amendment, and I will fight to keep it included in any other reforms passed while I am serving in office.”

Internal Poll Has Schilling Leading Hare, 45-32

Only 24% say Hare deserves re-election

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, released an internal poll which showed him leading Rep. Hare, 45%-32%. The automated poll was conducted on July 12th, 2010 by Magellan Strategies and surveyed 715 likely voters in the 17th District. David Flaherty, CEO of Magellan said that the 17th District is in play.

"Without question, it is clear that incumbent Congressman Phil Hare is in trouble," said Flaherty.
"His image rating, reelect rating and ballot test numbers show an incumbent that will be fighting hard to keep his job this November. There is no doubt, based on the results of this survey, that this will be a very competitive race and Republican candidate Bobby Schilling should be in a position to win this fall."

According to Flaherty, Phil Hare's image rating is "upside down," with 27% of voters having a favorable opinion of him, and 41% having an unfavorable opinion of him.

Terry Schilling, campaign manager, also commented on the poll.

"These numbers make perfect sense. Voters know that since Rep. Hare was elected in 2006, we have seen the unemployment rate double, the national debt grow by more than $5 trillion, and more taxes being pushed on the middle class. This isn't the best year to be an unapologetic tax and spender."

Schilling Responds to Hare on Finance Reform

07/23/2010
Says new law will crush small businesses

EAST MOLINE, IL--Terry Schilling, campaign manager for the Bobby Schilling for Congress campaign, responded to attacks from Rep. Phil Hare on financial reform with the following statement:

"It is clear that just like the health care bill, Phil Hare was too busy collecting lobbyist checks for his floundering campaign to actually read the 2,000 page financial reform bill which has very little to do with what caused our financial meltdown," said Terry Schilling, campaign manager. "The financial reform bill was written and supported by Wall Street lobbyists, which is why the stocks of the largest banks in the country sky-rocketed after this bill was unveiled. It puts in place over 533 new regulations on small businesses and community banks that will freeze up credit and result in deeper unemployment here in Illinois, and we have Phil Hare and his cronies to thank for it."

Schilling Victory Center Celebrates Grand Opening

07/21/2010
New record set for number of calls made

MOLINE, IL--The Bobby Schilling campaign celebrated the opening of the Schilling Victory Center in Moline on Monday night. Over 50 volunteers showed up to enjoy the open house, to learn how to use the automated phone banking system, and to make calls to constituents throughout the district. Bobby Schilling, candidate for Congress in the 17th District, was thrilled with the turnout.

"We had a great showing on Monday night," Schilling said. "We had more volunteers than available phones! The goal of this phone banking system is to get the message out about our campaign to every voter throughout the district. We believe we will accomplish that."

Terry Schilling, campaign manager for the Bobby Schilling campaign, said that the volunteer operations of the Schilling campaign have been groundbreaking.

"This Victory Center has done wonders for our campaign. We have several passionate volunteers that come in everyday, as well as some who help whenever they can spare a couple hours. We actually set a record Monday night for total calls made. There's no doubt that the thousands of calls we make will have an impact on the results on November 2nd."

The Schilling Victory Center is open every weekday from 3-8pm. For more information, contact the Bobby Schilling HQ at 309-752-9500.

Schilling Discusses Rep. Hare's FEC Report

07/17/2010
Special interests contribute 2/3 of Hare's total second quarter fundraising

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District, recently discussed Rep. Hare's second quarter FEC report. Rep. Hare managed to raise $178,000 in the second quarter, but only about $48,000 of that came from individual donors. Almost $120,000 came from special interest groups from outside the district, accounting for 2/3 of Hare's total second quarter fundraising.

"I think it's important to look at this information," Schilling said. "Rep. Hare receives most of his financial support from special interest groups. How are we supposed to believe he's looking out for the people of the 17th District when he takes so much money from groups that have absolutely no connection here? Rep. Hare's fundraising record shows, and his voting record demonstrates, that he is completely out of touch with the people of our district."

Terry Schilling, campaign manager for the Schilling campaign asked the Hare campaign to answer some questions about their fundraising.

"When a Congressman is receiving so much money from special interest groups outside of his district, two questions come to mind: What are you selling? and what are they buying? You can't accept hundreds of thousands of special interest dollars and not expect to perform favors in return. The Hare campaign should have to answer these questions."

Schilling was thrilled to see that his campaign once again raised more individual donations than his opponent. In the first quarter, Schilling outraised Hare in individual donations by a margin of 6 to 1. This quarter, Schilling raised $125,000 from individual donors, almost $80,000 more than his opponent. Schilling attributes this to the incredible supporters he's met with across the district.

"The people of the 17th District know that this race isn't about me. It's not about Bobby Schilling. It's about bringing real representation back to Washington because we've been sorely lacking. This isn't my race; it's our race, and I think that's why people are so energetic and so motivated. On November 2nd, we will take back our district."

Schilling Discusses White House Press Secretary's Comments

07/13/2010
Gibbs: "There's no doubt there are enough seats in play that could cause Republicans to gain control."

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, candidate for Congress in the 17th District, recently discussed the comments made by White House press secretary Robert Gibbs. Gibbs appeared on Meet The Press yesterday and asserted that the Republicans could realistically take control of Congress in November.

"On Sunday, Robert Gibbs articulated what the rest of the country already knows: irresponsible politicians are in big trouble in November," Schilling said. "The American people are sick and tired of failed policies, and they're tired of the same old excuses. Their voices will be heard loud and clear in November."

Many national pundits have stated that they believe Schilling has a solid chance to beat incumbent Phil Hare in November. In May, Jim Geraghty of the National Review ranked this race as one of the 13 most winnable races for Republican challengers. Schilling believes that, through hard work and determination, Americans will see a return to responsible fiscal and economic policy this November.

"We're doing everything we can to win this race," Schilling said. "We've done a fantastic job raising funds, and we've assembled an incredible team of over 1500 volunteers across the district. We've also reached out to grassroots organizations. I've never seen this type of energy during an election season before. People are really excited. These next few months will be absolutely critical, but I believe we will be victorious on November 2nd."

Schilling Supports Extension of Unemployment Benefits

07/13/2010
A temporary fix for the symptoms of a chronic problem

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, candidate for Congress in the 17th District, recently agreed with Rep. Hare that the Senate needs to pass the unemployment benefits package.

"I support extending unemployment benefits for the victims of this financial crisis," Schilling said. "It isn't fair to punish people for the irresponsible decisions of politicians in Washington, who don't know how to properly cut spending. I do believe that the money should be taken out of the unused TARP funds. This will help avoid paying additional interest on the $13 trillion deficit that we already have. The current Senate leadership should be ashamed at themselves for refusing to make a reasonable compromise like this."

Schilling blamed the need for an extension of unemployment benefits on the failed policies of Congress.

"We're focused on treating the symptoms when we should be trying to cure the disease," Schilling said. "The reason we need the extension on unemployment benefits is because of the horrendous mismanagement of the economy we've seen from Congress. They simply haven't fostered good economic conditions for businesses to hire people. Congress needs to roll back the recent tax increases they've passed on capital gains and dividends. They need to roll back the massive tax increases found in the healthcare reform bill. They also need to extend the Bush tax cuts, currently set to expire for 2011. Rep. Hare is currently fighting for benefits for the unemployed, but he won't do what's necessary to get them employed again."

Schilling Laments June Jobs Report

07/02/2010
125,000 jobs lost in the midst of 'recovery summer'

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District, recently expressed frustration with the new jobs report that showed the US economy lost 125,000 jobs in June.

"It appears that 'recovery summer' has ended early," Schilling said. "I'm disappointed with the numbers, but certainly not surprised. The US Census hires were inflating the numbers, masking the reality that this economy is still struggling. We need to work to get the private sector hiring again through tax cuts, employment incentives and responsible government. Current policymakers are still dead set on raising taxes and spending like teenagers without a credit limit. For the sake of the US worker, we need to fix that on November 2nd."

Unemployment actually dropped from 9.7% to 9.5% in June, but that was due to 652,000 workers giving up the job search and leaving the labor force. Schilling said that these workers have run out of patience and given up hope.

"It's upsetting that so many workers have given up looking for jobs, but that's the economic climate we're facing," Schilling said. "I wish our current representation would understand the dire circumstances we are facing. Instead of issuing ad hominem attacks against me, perhaps he should spend his time using proven methods to get our economy back on track."

Schilling Responds to Hare on Finance Reform

07/02/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL---Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District, responded to an attack from Rep. Phil Hare today on finance reform with the following statement:

"Can we take someone who voted to bailout and enable Wall Street's risky behavior seriously? Rep. Hare is being very disingenuous by suggesting that we keep Wall Street accountable with more regulations but at the same time give them billions of our tax payer dollars to keep them in business. My solution is to end the 'too big to fail' policy. This will force accountability on Wall Street. It's really quite simple: if a company knows that it will be bailed out no matter what, it will take as much risk as possible to gain as much as possible. If a company knows that it will not be bailed out, then they will be more cautious with their money."

Schilling's campaign manager, Terry Schilling commented on the nature of this attack.

"Again, Congressman Hare is speaking out of both sides of his mouth. I'm surprised he is openly engaging us this early on in the campaign. I'm glad that Rep. Phil Hare and his campaign are taking us seriously. It just goes to show that those internal polling numbers, that he wouldn't release, must not have been as good as they said they were."

MOLINE, IL--The Bobby Schilling campaign announced the opening of a "Victory Center" in Moline on Tuesday. In an unprecedented move in the 17th Congressional District, the Republican National Committee provided money and resources for the Victory Center.

"The Victory Center essentially functions as another headquarters for our volunteer operations," said Terry Schilling, campaign manager for the Bobby Schilling campaign. "We've been provided with a great working space, plenty of phones, and the tools we need to achieve victory in November."

Schilling Comments on Free Trade with South Korea

06/29/2010
Free trade crucial to the economy of the 17th District

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, candidate for Congress in the 17th District, recently commented on President Obama's push to finalize a free trade agreement between the United States and South Korea. Schilling supports free trade and believes this agreement is crucial to the economy of the 17th District.

"The 17th District depends on free trade," Schilling said. "Caterpillar exports 80% of its output at its Decatur factory. John Deere also has a heavy global presence. Allowing these companies to expand into emerging markets will increase their revenue and create jobs."

Schilling also noted that jobs are created in the United States even when a company opens up operations abroad.

"If John Deere or Caterpillar opens a production facility in South Korea, jobs will be created here at their headquarters," Schilling said. "These jobs would typically be in IT, marketing, or finance - in other words, high-paying service jobs that we desperately need in our area."

Schilling has argued that bringing permanent jobs to the 17th District, especially in a deep recession, should be a Congressman's priority, and that Rep. Hare hasn't been able to do that.

"Congressman Hare and I disagree on how to bring jobs to the 17th District," Schilling said. "I believe we need to keep taxes low and let the free market work by supporting free trade. Getting in the way of what businesses do best--creating jobs--is a short-sighted, defeatist attitude that I won't stand for."

Schilling Praises Supreme Court 2nd Amendment Ruling

06/29/2010
Right to bear arms upheld in a 5-4 decision

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, candidate for Congress in the 17th District, praised the Supreme Court 2nd amendment ruling on Monday. Schilling, an avid supporter of the 2nd amendment, was thrilled with the outcome.

"Today's decision was a victory for law-abiding citizens, and it was also a victory against those who want to trample on the United States Constitution," Schilling said. "Our founding fathers gave us these liberties for a reason, and we must continue to hold them close to our hearts."

Schilling also said that this ruling will reduce violent crime.

"It has been proven that areas that restrict 2nd amendment rights of law abiding citizens have many more cases of violent crimes. Criminals are less likely to commit violent crimes if they know the person they are robbing might be armed."

Schilling Issues Statement on Earmark Reform

06/24/2010
Congressional Process Is "Fundamentally Flawed"

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District, recently discussed the issue of earmarks and wasteful spending in Washington.

"I have spoken a lot to the issue of wasteful spending in Washington," Schilling said. "I believe that Congress can use taxpayer dollars wisely through spending on infrastructure projects and investing in our communities. There are definitely some forms of government spending that are good for the country. However, all too often there are wasteful pet projects thrown into bills to pay off campaign contributors or to return political favors. This is the type of Washington corruption that the American people are sick of seeing."

Schilling argued that the congressional earmarks process itself is the problem.

"It's shocking what happens with these earmarks. Right now, the process is fundamentally flawed. Hundreds of these projects are tacked onto huge appropriations bills without ever being read on the floor of Congress. I believe that each amendment should be voted on separately. Perhaps these projects are worthy of the use of taxpayer dollars, but each one should be called to a vote. The way it is done currently is a disservice to the American people. It is irresponsible government."

Schilling has been a strong advocate for fiscal conservatism, and has promoted a platform of low taxes and less government spending.

"I think the American taxpayer deserves the dignity of having their dollars used efficiently. It's certainly not appropriate for a sitting Congressman to spend $70,000 in taxpayer dollars on a campaign mailer promoting himself to voters within a district. When I'm elected to Congress, I will be a steward of taxpayer dollars and make sure that they are used efficiently and effectively."

Schilling Condemns Disclose Act as Unconstitutional

06/24/2010
Controversial campaign finance reform law being rushed through Congress

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District, condemned the Disclose Act on Thursday. The Disclose Act is a new campaign finance reform law being pushed through Congress. Schilling argued that the bill was politically motivated and unconstitutional.

"I oppose the Disclose Act for two major reasons," Schilling said. "First of all, I believe it violates the first amendment. This bill is intended to squelch speech that is currently constitutionally protected. Secondly, I don't believe this is a serious attempt at campaign finance reform. If we're going to change the rules of the game, they have to apply to everyone. Congress is working out backroom deals with certain special interest groups to give them exemptions, and that is categorically unfair."

Schilling also criticized the hasty nature with which the Disclose Act is being pushed through Congress.

"Thoughtful reform takes time," Schilling said. "You need to have input from both sides of the aisle, and the Constitution absolutely needs to be considered. It's unnerving to think that our current leadership is so quick to push through legislation that almost everyone agrees restricts freedom of speech."

06/18/2010
COLONA, IL--Republicans across Rock Island County attended the first annual "Shot Heard Round the State," a sporting clays tournament, today at the Bi-State Sportsmen's Association complex in Colona, IL. Over 125 people attended the event, most of whom competed in the tournament.

17th District Congressional Candidate Bobby Schilling was thrilled to be a part of the event. "This is a really great event the Rock Island Republicans put together," Schilling said. "It's a fantastic way to finish off a week of heavy campaigning."

Many other Illinois Republican candidates were in attendance as well, including: Jason Plummer, candidate for Lieutenant Governor, Steve Kim, candidate for Attorney General, Robert Enriquez, candidate for Secretary of State, and Rich Morthland, candidate in the 71st District for State Representative.

Shot Heard Round the State is an annual event "supporting those who defend our right to keep and bear arms." For more information about the event, please e-mail shotheard2010@gmail.com.

Schilling Commends Hare On Small Business Legislation

06/18/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District, commended Rep. Phil Hare on Friday for his support for needed jobs legislation. Hare recently voted for two small business jobs bills that should help stimulate the economy. The Small Business Jobs and Credit Act creates a $30 billion fund with performance-based incentives to increase lending from banks to small businesses. The Small Business Jobs and Tax Relief Act provides $3.5 billion in new tax incentives for new and existing small businesses, most notably increasing the tax deduction for small business start-ups from $5,000 to $20,000.

"I think these are fantastic pieces of legislation," Schilling said. "It's great that Rep. Hare is supporting this. It's certainly peculiar, though. He has received a 0% rating from both Americans for Tax Reform and Club For Growth, yet for the first time in his career he's suddenly promoting tax cuts? It sounds like a desperate attempt to run on conservatism to me. I'm glad our campaign has had a positive influence on him."

Schilling Questions Validity of May Jobs Report

06/09/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican running for Congress in the 17th District in Illinois, recently spoke about the May jobs report. According to the US Labor Department, the economy added 431,000 jobs last month.

"To the untrained eye, it looks great that we gained that many jobs last month. But the number is misleading," Schilling said. "First of all, only 41,000 of those jobs gained were in the private sector. The vast majority of those jobs were hires by the US Census Bureau. Those jobs are temporary positions that will disappear following the conclusion of the census. On top of that, the actual number of Census hires is under scrutiny from multiple different sources, as the Census has been accused of inflating that number for political reasons."

Schilling has focused heavily on the issue of job creation on the campaign trail. He argues that the only way to create sustainable jobs is in the private sector.

"It's impossible to spend your way out of a recession," Schilling said. "We need to get serious about jobs by stopping all tax increases and fostering economic conditions where employers have incentive to hire new workers. The recent passage of the healthcare takeover has put an even heavier burden on employers, only worsening the recession. Congress just doesn't understand what it takes to fix the economy. I do."

Schilling Praises Hare's Position on RICO Pay Raises

06/02/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th district, praised Congressman Phil Hare for his position that the Rock Island County Board should repeal the pay increases they recently passed.

"In times of economic hardship, we need responsible leaders who understand what everyday Americans are going through," Schilling said. "It's unethical for civil servants to be voting themselves pay raises while everyday Americans are struggling to get by. Congress recently voted to reject their annual automatic pay increase, and the Rock Island County Board should follow suit. It's just not an appropriate use of taxpayer money when the country is facing one of the worst economic periods since the Great Depression."

Schilling was happy to hear that Congressman Hare took a stand against the Rock Island County Board's decision.

"I'm excited to see that Rep. Hare is on board with us on this important issue. I hope that he will be able to work with the Rock Island County Board to deliver the votes necessary to repeal these pay increases."

Schilling has previously taken strong positions on the issue of pay for civil servants. In his contract with the 17th district, he promised to reject any Congressional pay raises while he is in office. He also promised to reject both the Congressional pension plan and the Congressional health insurance package.

Statement on Service in the United States Armed Forces

06/01/2010
AN OPPORTUNITY MISSED IS NOT ALWAYS AN OPPORTUNITY LOST

It is true; I never had the honor of wearing the uniform of our country. I thank God and the members of our continuing Greatest Generation, WW II, Korean, and Vietnam veterans for the relative peace and tranquility in this great country when I graduated from High School. And I thank the members of our current all-volunteer military for the great job they are doing in the Global War on Terror.

Like many, I was never called upon to put on the uniform and fight... but it is with certainty that I state unequivocally that I would have served if called.

We must remember there is more than one way to serve our country. Through the Grace of God and our country’s veterans and military, I was given an ability to hear a different calling upon graduation from high school. That calling was to raise a family of responsible citizens who grow and thrive in a free society and pursue the American dream. I chose then, and continue to choose now, to serve my fellow citizens and country by establishing, and maintaining, a flourishing business that gives opportunity not only to my family, but many families. That has been my calling most of my adult life.

As I stated, I have not had the privilege to wear the uniform of America’s fighting forces, but I have heard our country's call, and this is my time to serve. This is my time to serve the veterans who continue making the American Dream a reality even as we speak. This is my time to serve the group of men and women currently serving in the fight for freedom... and this is my time to serve the voters of the 17th District. I have heard this call as clearly and distinctly as any mother who hears her child in distress. I now ask you for the chance to serve this country.

As Cincinnatus left private life to save Rome and restore her glory, I seek now to chart a similar path... a path to restore the glory of America. As did Cincinnatus, who returned to private life once his mission was accomplished, I too seek the same conclusion -- for he was not a career politician and I am not a career politician. We are in a desperate situation with Mr. Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and of course, Congressman Hare – who, when asked about the constitutionality of a subject replied “I don’t worry about the Constitution, to be honest." Well folks, I'm here to tell you that I worry about the Constitution! Our rights are being trampled and the Constitution is being looked upon as an inconvenient piece of legislation of little concern. My intention is to go to Washington and help fix this situation and come home.

05/31/2010
GALESBURG, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th Congressional District, hosted a hog roast fundraiser in Galesburg at Lake Storey Park, last Saturday, May 29. Over 200 people came out to support Schilling's campaign and hear from the candidate himself. Schilling focused on fiscal responsibility and jobs. He also encouraged the supporters to get their family and friends involved in the political process.

"This November we need to send people to Washington to fix the fiscal nightmare that has become business as usual," said Schilling. "As of right now the national debt is over $13 trillion. We have to start taking this seriously. We need Kennedy and Reagan style tax cuts, to create jobs and spur our economy. It's hard to get out of debt when the unemployment rate is above 10% across most of the 17th District."

The hog roast was organized by Galesburg natives Chuck Armstrong and Dr. John Edwards. There were over 34 volunteers who helped to sell tickets and spread the word about the event.

"The 2010 mid term elections are going to be extremely important. If we are going to win, we are going to need to get all of you talking to your friends, families, neighbors and co-workers about our campaign. This isn't my campaign, this is our campaign. This is going to be a team effort and everyone needs to get involved."

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, graduated from Alleman High School and attended Black Hawk College. Schilling, a local business owner and father of ten children, is the Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District in Illinois. Bobby is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real representation back to the 17th District. Earlier this year, Schilling conducted a 34-city "Bob's for Jobs" tour, where he met with voters and employers all across the 17th District.

'Joe the Plumber' Stumps for Schilling

05/27/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, hosted a fundraiser Saturday night in New Windsor, in which Joe Wurzelbacher, better known as "Joe the Plumber", came to endorse his candidacy for Congress. Over 200 people showed up to meet Joe and to support the Bobby Schilling for Congress campaign. Joe said that he supports Schilling and that voters need to get educated about their choices in November.

"Bobby wants to do his best to fix this country," said Joe Wurzelbacher. "I vetted him quite heavily and I know that he is a mover and a shaker. He can get things done in Washington."

Schilling was happy to get his endorsement, as well.

"Joe represents the average American and the typical voter of the 17th District," said Schilling. "Our values match up well. I'm glad to get his support. We are going to work our fingers to the bone to get this job done. This is just too important to let our nation continue down the same path of higher debt, higher taxes and less jobs."

Schilling Responds to Hare's Job Tour

05/23/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Ilinois 17th District, responded to Rep. Hare's job tour with the following statement:

"It will be fun to watch Phil Hare, who has spent trillions of our tax dollars irresponsibly trying to spend our way out of a recession, explain why the unemployment rate has doubled in our district under his watch. Spending trillions in pork does nothing but create temporary jobs and increase the tax burden for our children and grandchildren. To increase jobs in the district, we must first start by laying off the person responsible for all the other layoffs: Phil Hare."

In Case You Missed It:National Review Looking Hard at Hare's Vulnerability

05/17/2010
Few predictions have generated more 'Jim, you must be gargling with Maker's Mark again' responses than my assessment that defeating Illinois Democrat Phil Hare is roughly as difficult as beating the Saint Louis Rams. (Actually, the discussion here is whether I'm 'on amphetamines' or whether I'm 'retarded.')

If someone wants to argue that Hare doesn't belong among the most absolutely vulnerable Democrats, fine, but anyone who thinks he's a safe Democrat is, I suspect, extraordinarily mistaken.

For starters, let's take a look at the jobless rate in some of the cities in Hare's district.

Sterling: 12.5 percent in March 2010, 13.7 percent in February; it was only 7 percent in November 2008, the last time Hare went before the voters (and with no Republican opponent).

Rock Island: 10.2 percent March 2010, 10.8 percent the previous month; 5.5 percent in November 2008.

Quincy: 8.9 percent in March 2010, 9.7 percent in February; 5 percent in November 2008.

Springfield: 9.3 percent March 2010, 10.1 the previous month; 5.9 percent in November 2008.

Decatur: 13.8 percent March 2010, 14.6 percent the previous month; 7 percent in November 2008.

Illinois unemployment rate is increasing faster than the national rate, and the counties in Hare's district have pretty bad foreclosure rates (although Chicago's is worse.)

While March saw a bit of improvement, in most cities in Hare's district, unemployment is close to double what it was the last time he faced the voters. This is not a circumstance where an incumbent can use the old Ed Koch slogan, "How am I doing?" Yes, this is a district gerrymandered to include a lot of Democrats. But even partisan Democrats who are out of work for long stretches can get dissatisfied with their incumbents and think about staying home or voting for the other guy.

Then there's the matter of those polls conducted by Hare's campaign but never released. What could they have shown? How good could they possibly have been for Hare if he's decided to keep them under wraps, even after needling from GOP challenger Bobby Schilling? 55-45? If it were, say, 57-43, wouldn't Hare have released them to show he's still in fine shape?

Late last year, a poll found only 40 percent inclined to reelect Hare; in March, another poll found Hare leading Schilling 39 percent to 32 percent, a not-quite-so-daunting margin.

Schilling Challenges Hare to Release Poll Results

04/20/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the IL-17 District, challenged Rep. Phil Hare to release the results of two polls, which his campaign paid for in the first quarter of this year, within the next 48 hours. According to the FEC, Friends of Phil Hare paid $30,000 on two polls conducted on February 12 and 19 of 2010. Schilling said that Rep. Hare should release the results of the poll, especially in regard to healthcare, so that the citizens of the 17th can know whether or not he voted in line with the will of his constituents.

"Rep. Hare spent $30,000 of his constituents' donations on two polls in early February, and I challenge him to release the results, good or bad, within the next 48 hours," said Schilling. "I am confident the poll numbers will show that Hare is politically weak due to his support of the Obama, Pelosi liberal agenda that is out-of-step with the hardworking taxpayers of Illinois."

Schilling 'On the Radar' with NRCC

04/19/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th Congressional District, has officially been put "On the Radar" by the NRCC and into their national Young Guns program. The Young Guns program was started by Reps. Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan and Kevin McCarthy as an organization to help elect Republicans in open-seat and challenger races. Currently there are only 61 members in the Young Guns program. Schilling gave the credit to his supporters and volunteers for this tremendous bench mark.

"I tell people frequently that this isn't my campaign," said Schilling. "This is our campaign. We now have over a thousand volunteers throughout the district. They are all dedicated to our cause and movement. Our campaign would be nothing without them."

Being enrolled in the Young Guns means that Schilling will have bench marks and goals that his campaign will have to meet in regard to fundraising and volunteer recruitment. In a press release sent out today, NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions said that the program prepares challengers to run 'tough campaigns' against incumbents.

"These candidates have made remarkable steps toward victory by meeting the rigorous goals laid out by the Young Guns program," said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions. "The early success of these candidates is not only a testament to the strength of the Young Guns program, it is also a sign that Americans are fed up with a Democrat majority that continues to spend too much, tax too much, and borrow too much. As these candidates continue to meet our benchmarks on their road to victory, they will be preparing themselves for tough campaigns to hold Democrats accountable for their big-spending, big-government policies that they have recklessly forced upon the American people."

Schilling Campaign Showing Over $109,000 On Hand

04/17/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the IL-17 Congressional District, is proud to announce that his campaign has over $109,000 in his campaign account. Schilling raised a little over $72,000 in the first quarter, with only $350 coming from political action committees. Rep. Phil Hare, Schilling's November opponent, managed to only raise a little over $14,000 from individual donors. Terry Schilling, campaign manager for the Schilling campaign, said that there is a clear difference between the two candidates and their campaigns.

"The fact that we managed to out-raise our incumbent opponent in individual donations, while in a district designed for Democrats, says something about our campaign supporters," said Terry Schilling. "A lot of people have sacrificed and put in hundreds of hours to help us. Our donations come from Democrats, Republicans and Independents. We are going to continue to bring our independent message to the voters of the 17th District. People are sick of the spending, tax increases and status-quo that is Washington D.C."

The Schilling campaign also set a record for a Republican challenger in the 17th District. No other challenger has had over $50,000 at this point, for the past decade.

Schilling also pointed out that Hare raised over 87 per cent of his donations from special interest political action committees. Schilling said that with numbers like that it is clear who truly represents the citizens of the 17th District and who represents the special interest lobbying groups.

Schilling decries vindictive Democrat attacks on John Deere and Caterpillar

04/10/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL-- Bobby Schilling, the Republican Candidate for the Illinois 17th Congressional District, declared the Democratic Party is attempting to intimidate companies who fail to yield to the party's agenda. Democratic leadership recently demanded that the CEOs of John Deere and Caterpillar appear before Congress and surrender company documents, a move that has apparently met with the tacit approval of the district's current Congressman, Phil Hare.

"Our Congressman cannot even muster the smallest protest to this threat to our community's jobs and livelihoods while he marches in lockstep with Nancy Pelosi, Henry Waxman, and the liberal California Congressmen who run our government," Schilling said.

On March 26th, Rep. Henry Waxman, the Chair of the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee, issued letters to the CEOs of Caterpillar and John Deere, the two largest employers in the 17th district, demanding that they turn over any and all documents and emails related to their recent earnings statements and that they testify before Congress to explain their actions. Both companies, along with a host of other Fortune 500 companies, announced that the latest healthcare legislation will lower future profits by hundreds of millions of dollars, which will hurt their employees as well as the economies they are located in. The companies explained in their announcements that they had to estimate the legislation's impact on profits soon after the legislation passed in order to comply with SEC regulations.

Schilling said that these "companies employ thousands of workers in our district, and the recently passed healthcare legislation will cost each company hundreds of millions of dollars. More importantly, the legislation takes away any incentive these companies have to provide retiree drug benefits. By merely reporting these facts, as they are required to do by the Financial Accounting and Standards Board, Chairman Waxman has decided to rake them over the coals and bring their CEOs to DC for what will amount to little more than a show trial.

"Given Hare's silence on the subject, it seems that when he has to choose between loyalty to his party's leadership and jobs in his district, he sticks with his party bosses. My loyalty will always be to the jobs of the men and women who live and work in the 17th district of Illinois."

Hare: "I don't worry about the Constitution"

04/03/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, said that Rep. Phil Hare's comments on the Constitution were "despicable and foolish." At a town hall yesterday, Phil Hare, when asked about the constitutionality of the new healthcare law, told constituents that he, "doesn't worry about the Constitution." Schilling was traveling to a 9/12 meeting in Montgomery county when he heard about the comment.

"This statement is outrageous and ridiculous," said Schilling. "What is really sad is that this mindset is typical of many representatives in Congress. This explains why Congress is out of control. The Constitution is a protection set up for the people against a tyrant government. It has kept the United States stable for almost 250 years. When we go to Congress we will reign in this tyrant government and get it back to following and believing in the Constitution."

Schilling condemns violence and threats says debate should go on

03/27/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the IL-17 District, condemned violence and threats against political candidates today. In an article published in the national political publication, Politico, Rep. Phil Hare voiced fear over growing threats of violence. Schilling said that violence in politics is never acceptable and that anyone giving threats should be punished.

"Violence and threats of violence, are not just un-American, they are immoral and despicable," said Schilling. "However, I do not believe that this should hamper the debate. Our representatives should have to face the people who voted them into office and be held accountable for their votes. The voters of the 17th District are upstanding citizens. They are not monsters that Congressman Hare should hide from. They are simply concerned citizens who are worried about how they are going to pay their mortgage, their car payments, their utilities and pay the massive tax increases associated with this healthcare takeover."

In the Politico article, Congressman Hare mentioned that he was planning on having 8 town hall meetings on healthcare. He went on to say that he might have to cancel them over concerns for his safety. Schilling responded and said that fear should never constrain the quest for American greatness.

"President Roosevelt was famous for saying that 'The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself,'" said Schilling. "We cannot let random threats of violence stop this debate. Martin Luther King Jr. had reason to fear for his life and family, when he marched for civil rights, but he still marched. Susan B. Anthony had reason to fear for her life and family, when she fought for women's rights, but she still fought. Our Founding Fathers had reason to fear for their lives and families, when they signed the Declaration of Independence, but they still signed it. If Rep. Hare truly believes in what he votes on, then he should have no fear of facing his voters. Rep. Hare shouldn't hide behind the threats of a small, minute faction of extremists and use it as a reason to stop this debate."

Schilling also said that he knows many people who are associated with the tea parties and 9/12 groups and that all of them are "upstanding and moral people."

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, graduated from Alleman High School and attended Black Hawk College. Schilling, a local business owner and father of ten children, is the Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District in Illinois. Schilling: Gap in new healthcare law for children is wrong

03/27/2010
EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the IL-17 District, criticized the new healthcare law for having a gap in protection for children with pre-existing medical conditions. According to the spokesperson for the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which was responsible for writing a large part of the recently passed bill, the new law still allows insurance companies to refuse new coverage to children with pre-existing conditions. Schilling said that Rep. Hare owes an explanation and possibly, a retraction of former statements about the bill's merits.

"This is a shame," said Schilling. "Again the federal government and our representatives have misled us. They made this bill sound as if it would fix all of our problems. Clearly it does not. Rep. Hare would have known about this new loophole if he had read the bill. He should apologize for misleading the people of his district."

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, graduated from Alleman High School and attended Black Hawk College. Schilling "Kill the Bill" Money-bomb Drive Brings in Over $25,000

Schilling "Kill the Bill" Money-bomb Drive Brings in Over $25,000

More than doubles original goal of $10,000

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the IL-17 District, held a "Kill the Bill" money-bomb fundraising drive that pulled in $25,215.67. The fundraising drive was announced about two weeks ago and ended on Sunday, March 21, at midnight. Schilling said that the success of this fundraising drive shows that voters are ready for a new direction in Illinois politics.

"I was only expecting to raise around $5,000 for this money-bomb," said Schilling. "I am humbled and honored that grassroot supporters came together and helped us crush our original goal. It shows that supporters are fired-up and ready to go."

Mike Moehlenhof, a grassroot supporter of Mr. Schilling, was responsible for organizing and advertising for the money-bomb drive. Mr. Moehlenhof said that financial support started coming in as soon as they began advertising for the drive.

"People were very eager to donate to Bobby's campaign," said Moehlenhof. "In fact we reached the original goal of $10,000, six days early. Then, when we announced that we had to adjust the goal, the flood gates opened. I was very happy when we found out the total amount raised was over $25,000. I can't wait to do another one closer to the election."

Mr. Moehlenhof said that the fundraising drive attracted a lot of new donors and that supporters were extremely engaged for this event.

Moehlenhof continued, "People really connect with Bobby's fresh face and uplifting message. They are sick of the tax and spend, regulate more, status-quo politicians in Washington. His campaign has a message that Republicans, Independents and even a lot of Democrats can embrace."

Schilling: New ‘New Deal’ is bogus, wastes money, and insults real job creators

12/16/2009
December 17, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For more information please contact Terry Schilling at (309) 230-3909

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for the Illinois 17th Congressional District, criticized the so-called “New Deal for a New Economy Act” today, for using false predictions and bogus facts, and for ignoring the input of real people who know how to create real jobs.

"The Democrats in Congress—including Rep. Phil Hare – are falsely claiming that this 'New-New Deal' is going to create at least 3 million jobs," said Schilling. "Didn't they also predict that the $787 billion stimulus was going to create 6.8 million jobs by 2012. Since passing the stimulus, 2.65 million jobs have been lost across the country. That is quite short of the 6.8 million projected in two years. This number is also expected to be inflated due to the fact that there is no standard for measuring jobs saved."

The White House had previously predicted that the stimulus would keep the unemployment rate under 8 percent, however, the unemployment rate has risen past 10 percent, even with the stimulus. The New Deal for a New Economy Act is projected to cost $180 billion, which is less than 30 percent of the stimulus bill. Schilling said that if this bill performs better than the stimulus, then "Congress should be fired for wasting $787 billion on a failed stimulus."

"We need solutions, not temporary busy work. What happens when the funds for these jobs dry up? Will we have to lay off those workers? Will we have to spend another $180 billion to keep these jobs in place? I have said it before, the American people don't want or deserve temporary work projects, they want real solutions and stable jobs. They don’t want more federal pork programs that only add to the debt our children will be burdened with.”

Schilling said the so-called New Deal might have been better thought-out if the Democrats hadn’t intentionally barred the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Business from attending the recent Job Summit. “It’s obvious,” Schilling said, “that people who know how to create jobs were not involved in drafting this so-called ‘New Deal.’ The residents of the U.S. and the Illinois 17th Congressional District face real problems and they need real solutions – not cool and expensive slogans dreamed up by East Coast elitests.”

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, has served as a local union steward and also has 13 years of union experience. Schilling, a local business owner and father of nine children, is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real representation back to the 17th district. Schilling is the only Republican candidate for the Illinois 17th District that will be on the ballot in the February primary election.

Schilling: Debt Ceiling Should not Be Raised

12/16/2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th Congressional District, warned against raising the debt ceiling by $1.8 trillion. Schilling criticized Congress for letting the national debt get as high as it is.

"If the United States Government was an individual, they would have already declared bankruptcy," said Schilling. "Congress is acting like a teenager with their first credit card. When you max out a credit card, it isn't very smart to request to have the credit limit increased. Instead of raising the credit limit, we should start to pay off the debt we already have."

Currently, the United States has a national debt of more than $12 trillion dollars. It is believed that Congress is trying to lift the debt ceiling before the new year in order to keep it from being an issue in the 2010 mid-term elections.

Schilling continued, "It's time that the American people vote to take away the Congressional credit card and force them to take some responsibility."

Schilling: New Ideas and Leadership Needed to Bring Jobs Back

12/16/2009
December 10, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For more information contact Terry Schilling (309) 230-3909

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th Congressional District, criticized the new democratic plan to create jobs in the form of a new $180 billion stimulus plan. Schilling said that the $787 billion stimulus failed and that we shouldn't waste another $180 billion to try and create jobs.

"We need innovative and fresh ideas to create jobs," said Schilling. "Congress is trying the same failed 'tax and spend' policies of the past to try and create jobs. This measure will fail worse than the stimulus. We have already spent $246,000 per job from the stimulus, I would hate to see how much we spend per job on the current measure.

"Temporary work projects are not what taxpayers want, or deserve. We need permanent jobs that are not going to increase our deficit. We need new leadership and new ideas in order to revive this economy. The recovery is not going to come from Washington, it is going to come from us. Washington needs to encourage job creating measures that will increase our tax revenue, not drain it. I think that Congress has wasted enough money trying to create jobs. We need to let the free market create jobs and leave the government bureaucrats out of it."

Schilling Criticizes Congressional Tax Proposal on Investments

12/16/2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For more information please contact Terry Schilling (309) 230-3909

EAST MOLINE, IL-- Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District, criticized Congress for proposing a tax on investment transactions today. Schilling said that partisan politicians are playing the politics of class warfare and are being dishonest by suggesting that this tax will not have an affect on what they dub, "Main Street."

"To suggest that this is just a tax on Wall Street is both deceitful and manipulative," said Schilling. "Washington needs to stop practicing the politics of divide and conquer, and focus on getting us out of this recession. There is a direct relation between Wall Street and Main Street. When Main Street does well, then Wall Street does well and when Main Street does poorly, Wall Street usually does poorly. The only time that Wall Street did better than Main Street, was when Congress decided to bail out Wall Street and not the American taxpayer."

A financial transaction tax would penalize nearly half of all U.S. citizens. A recent survey by the Investment Company Institute showed that a record 49.5 percent of all U.S. households own individual stocks or stock mutual funds.

Schilling also said, "I'm especially disappointed - although not surprised - that Congressman Hare is supporting this class warfare legislation."

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, has served as a local union steward and also has 13 years of union experience. Schilling, a local business owner and father of nine children, is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real representation back to the 17th district. 47 percent in 17th District Would Vote Against Hare

12/16/2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For more information please contact Terry Schilling at (309) 230-3909

EAST MOLINE, IL-- A recent poll, that was commissioned by Quincynews.org and conducted by We Ask America, has found that if the election were held last week, 47 percent of voters would have voted against Congressman Phil Hare. The poll also showed that 40 percent of voters in the 17th Congressional District would have supported him, while 13 percent were still undecided. Republican opponent Bobby Schilling said that this isn't a surprise because of the staggering amount of jobs that have left the district.

"The recent poll results are no surprise to me at all," said Schilling. "The 17th District has been losing jobs left and right, even before this recession took place. If you look at how many jobs have been lost in Rock Island and Knox counties alone, it isn't a mystery that people in the district want a change."

The poll also showed that Hare's support among independent voters was at about 30%, while 56% of independents would have voted against him. The poll also showed that Jobs was the top issue for 42% of respondents.

"This recent poll has raised quite a bit of excitement among our campaign volunteers and supporters," said campaign manager Bill Hanford. "Our supporters have already been quite motivated and this just makes them all the more ready to help our campaign bring businesses and jobs back to the district.

"This poll certainly makes the case that voters in the 17th want change and new opportunities. Voters realize that Congressman Hare won't be able to deliver on new jobs and economic recovery, and once they know Bobby, voters will like what they see, new opportunities and economic growth."

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, has served as a local union steward and also has 13 years of union experience. Schilling, a local business owner and father of nine children, is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real representation back to the 17th district. Schilling Criticizes Federal Advisory Committee on Mammogram Suggestion

12/16/2009
November 20, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For more information please contact Terry Schilling at (309) 230-3909

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District, criticized a recent claim by an influential federal advisory committee, that suggested that women should stop getting mammograms before the age of 50. Schilling said that the decision was completely wrong because many women detect breast cancer when they are in their 40s.

The American Cancer Society continues to recommend that women ages 40 and over receive annual screening for breast cancer. This underscores the fact that the federal advisory study was shortsighted and flawed.

"Everyone on that federal advisory committee should be removed," Schilling said. "This is either a case of complete incompetence or complete maliciousness. I take this issue very personally because my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and because of early detection she lived an extra 9 years.

"We need to pay special attention to this case because federal committees, like the one mentioned above, are the same types of committees that will be making decisions on our health care coverage.

"Proponents of the government option can claim that this is 'fear-mongering', but in fact this is reality. I am surprised that my opponent is not outraged. Lives are at risk, this is not a gray area, it is black and white and he needs to take a stand. This is the government rationing of health care. He needs to fight for women's lives.

"This is just another example of why we want the federal government wants to keep as far away from our health care decisions as possible. All medical decisions should be between a person and their doctor, not a bureaucratic advisory committee and their doctor."

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, has served as a local union steward and also has 13 years of union experience. Schilling, a local business owner and father of nine children, is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real representation back to the 17th district. Schilling Visits Thomson Correctional Facility

12/16/2009

November 17, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For more information please contact Terry at (309) 230-3909

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th Congressional District, visited the Thomson Correctional Facility today. Thomson Correctional Facility is under consideration to house Guantanamo Bay detainees. Schilling criticized the proposal, calling it "short-sighted" but also said that he supports filling Thomson with federal criminals, just not Al-Qaida terrorists.

"Our politicians tend to be a little short sighted at times," said Schilling. "That explains why we have a skyrocketing national debt and the highest unemployment rate since President Carter. It is almost as if as soon as someone says the word 'jobs' they will fully support the measure, even if it means bringing Al-Qaeda terrorists within 50 miles of their residents. We can create jobs by bringing federal prisoners here, we don't need to bring Al-Qaida terrorists here in order to create jobs.

Schilling spoke with many residents. Reactions were mixed, however the general stance was that housing federal criminals was okay, but housing the Guantanamo detainees was a bad idea. Many residents said that the concern should not be the Al-Qaida prisoners inside of Thomson, but who the prisoners would be attracting to the area.

"Our politicians need to be leaders and look at the long term effects of bringing Al-Qaida terrorists to this prison. How are we going to transport these terrorists to the prison? How is housing Al-Qaida terrorists going to affect employers in the area? What type of people, is this prison going to attract? Who are the future prisoners of Thomson? What if Osama bin Laden is caught? Will he be housed in Thomson? If so, won't that make Thomson a huge target for a terrorist attack?

"Furthermore what is it going to do to the surrounding areas? I know for a fact that I wouldn't want to move or open a business within 50 miles of an Al-Qaeda prison.

"If this were a nuclear waste facility, I am sure that these politicians would have a much different take on it. In reality a nuclear waste facility would have the same amount of economic damage as this terrorist prison will.

"Voters need to keep in mind that these are the same politicians who oppose job creating measures like domestic oil drilling. Domestic oil drilling actually helps local economies and their surrounding areas, all the while creating thousands of high paying jobs across the country and lowering energy prices for all. It just seems a little odd to me that they would support bringing Al-Qaida terrorist into our country to create a small amount of jobs, but oppose a non-controversial measure like domestic energy production."

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, has served as a local union steward and also has 13 years of union experience. Schilling, a local business owner and father of nine children, is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real representation back to the 17th district. Schilling Criticizes Hare's Support of Bringing Guantanamo Detainees to Thomson

12/16/2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For more information, please contact Terry Schilling at (309) 230-3909

EAST MOLINE, IL-- Bobby Schilling, candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th Congressional District, criticized Congressman Hare's support of bringing Guantanamo Bay detainees to the Thomson Correctional Center:

"It is quite sad, that the only way in which Congressman Hare can create jobs is by filling an empty prison with Islamic terrorists. This shouldn't even be an option. There are plenty of states across the country that don't need a terrorist prison to create jobs. I can think of at least 10 better ways to bring jobs back to Illinois, other than sacrificing our security by bringing terrorists here.

"More than being sad, it is quite disappointing that Congressman Hare supports this measure. This will put Al-Qaeda terrorists within 50 miles of our children. It is unacceptable.

"I have been traveling the district, meeting with employers and workers, for a little less than a year now. Jobs aren't coming to the district because employers are punished at every turn they take. Congressman Hare should take a tour across the district to meet with employers and find out why they can't create more jobs, instead of bringing terrorists into our state.

"With skyrocketing debt and corrupt politicians, the last thing that Illinois is in need of is Al-Qaeda terrorists."

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, has served as a local union steward and also has 13 years of union experience. Schilling, a local business owner and father of nine children, is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real representation back to the 17th district.

Schilling Criticizes House Vote on Health Care

12/16/2009
Nov. 7, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For More information, contact Terry Schilling (309) 230-3909

EAST MOLINE, IL--Today, Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th Congressional District of Illinois, criticized the House of Representatives on the passage of the new health care bill.

"Today Congress took a step in the wrong direction," Schilling said. "Over 50% of the American people did not want a government overhaul of their health care system. This bill is not only going to raise health care costs and eliminate choice, it is going to crush our economy. This bill is nothing but an added tax on the American people. It is wrong to force people to buy health insurance. This is going to hurt struggling families and it is going to kill jobs."

Schilling continued, "An estimate by the Congressional Budget Office said that the lowest cost plan by 2016, would cost $16,000. To make matters even worse, the House Ways and Means Committee has announced that anyone who doesn't buy health insurance could be subject to a $250,000 fine and/or 5 years in jail. This is just absurd. If people can't afford health insurance, how could you possibly threaten them with jail time. This just proves that Congress has no understanding of the struggles that face working families everyday."

"The current health care bill does nothing but disincentivize employment. Congress just voted to eliminate jobs during a time when Illinoisans desperately need them. Just yesterday it was announced that the national unemployment rate is now at 10.2%. It is even worse in Illinois, at 10.5%. At a time when employers are barely making ends meet, Congress passed a bill that would make the costs of employing workers even greater. This bill will result in even higher unemployment, I can guarantee that."

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, has served as a local union steward and also has 13 years of union experience. Schilling, a local business owner and father of nine children, is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real represenatation back to the 17th district.

East Moline, IL--Bobby Schilling, the only Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District, held a 'standing room only' town hall at the Milan Community Center, last Sunday. Over 200 voters came from Rock Island County, Mercer County and even Knox County, to share their health care concerns with Bobby Schilling. The event was attended by a mixture of Democrats, Independents and Republicans.

"For years I have considered myself to be an independent voter," said Annette Diederich, a resident of East Moline, "I don't think that voting party lines is really healthy for a democracy. I always vote for the person and the values that they stand for. I have seen Bobby speak quite a few times now and I believe that he has the right values to truly represent our district."

Annette continued, "Bobby is always direct with the voters. He cleared up a lot of misinformation in regard to the new health care bill."

"I was very happy about the turn out last night," said Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District, "We had a good even mix of Democrats, Independents and Republicans. That tells me that this election is going to be based on the issues, not the parties."

Bobby continued, "People are upset and they feel like they aren't being represented. It's not a matter of being heard or listened to, it's a matter of representation. A representative could hold a hundred town halls, but if they don't do what their constituents want, then what was the point? Voters don't want lip service, they results and they want their representatives to work for them."

Bobby Schilling is a native of Rock Island, Illinois. Bobby Schilling served as a local union steward for over a year and also has 13 years of union experience. Over a Hundred Turned Out for Health Care Town Hall Forum with Schilling

10/06/2009
QUINCY, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District of Illinois, held a town hall forum to discuss the current state of our health care system, at the Holiday Inn hotel in Quincy. Over 100 people gathered to discuss the size of the current health care bill, pre-existing conditions, tort reform and portability of health care.

"One of the major problems with this bill is the fact that it weighs over 10 pounds," said Bobby Schilling, "This bill should be broken up into at least 20 sections and each section should be voted on separately. There is no reason to jam through all of this at once."

"One of the major problems with the health care system is that insurance companies are forced to compete state by state," Bobby continued, "There are over 3,000 insurance companies in America, it would lower costs dramatically if you allowed them to compete nationally rather than just state by state. Rather than wasting trillions of dollars on a public insurance company, we should use the untapped competition opportunites that we have now and open up the insurance industry to be able to compete nationally."

Bobby Schilling Criticizes Hare on Health Care
Congressional Leader not listening to Constituents

EAST MOLINE--Bobby Schilling, Republican Congressional candidate for the 17th district of Illinois, criticized Congressman Phil Hare's position on government run health care.

"As usual, Phil Hare has chosen to side with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, instead of representing the values of the Midwest. People here don't like government intrusion and bureaucracy." Bobby continued, "If the people wanted to be represented by Pelosi they would move to California. They want to be able to make their own decisions in regard to health care."

Recent polls have shown that 54% of Americans would prefer that the government keep their hands off the current system because they believe government run health care would be worse than what we currently have. Other polls have also shown that 80% of Americans are happy with their current health insurance plan.

"It's time to send people to Washington to serve the people of their districts. We need true servants to do the will of the people, not fake representatives who think they know what's best and try to force it upon us."

EAST MOLINE—Last Friday in Washington, the House of Representatives passed the H.R. 2454, otherwise known as ‘Cap and Trade’. This bill, if passed by the Senate will be the biggest tax increase that the nation has ever witnessed.

According to The Wall Street Journal by 2020, ‘Cap and Trade’ will cost a family of four over $1,800 a year. The tax will increase every year so that by 2035, it will cost a family of four over $6,800 a year.

“I can say one thing for sure, and that is that the people of the 17th district are taxed enough. The hard working people of the 17th don’t need anymore tax burdens than they already have,” said Bobby Schilling, candidate for the 17th Congressional district. “As long as we are raising taxes, we can count on thousands of more jobs being shipped over seas. This is not the type of ‘Change’ that the good citizens of the 17th district voted for. We need real change, in the form of responsible spending and tax-cuts for all.”

Bobby Schilling is the father of nine, a local business owner, and a candidate for the 17th Congressional district.
