Cook Political Report Moves 17th District from "Solid D"

Prognosticators Up the Odds for a Schilling Victory in November
EAST MOLINE, IL--The Cook Political Report, an independent non-partisan newsletter that analyzes Federal elections, announced Thursday that it changed its rating for the 17th District of Illinois from "Solid D" to "Likely D." Bobby Schilling, the Republican candidate for the district's Congressional seat, released the following statement:

"We've been working hard to get our message out to the people of this district. We had a solid second quarter of fundraising, and now we're leading in the polls. I believe that there's a lot of work to do before November, but we are definitely moving in the right direction. The support for our campaign has been tremendous, and the national pundits are beginning to pick up on that."

The Cook Political Report is not the only source that has taken note of Schilling's rise in the polls. Real Clear Politics has recently changed IL-17 from 'Safe Dem' to 'Likely Dem,' and the NRCC has promoted Schilling to "Contender" status in its Young Guns program.

Terry Schilling, campaign manager for the Bobby Schilling campaign, believes these ratings are a sign of good things to come.

"We have been overwhelmed with support from the people of the 17th district who are worried by the 10% unemployment and stagnant economy in our area of the country." said Terry Schilling. "We want to bring effective representation for our district to Washington."

Bobby Schilling, a native of Rock Island and a local business owner, is the Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District in Illinois. Earlier this year, Schilling conducted a 34-city "Bob's for Jobs" tour, where he met with voters and employers all across the 17th District. Schilling applauds Hare for 'seeing the light'

EAST MOLINE, IL--Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the 17th District of Illinois, applauded Representative Phil Hare for switching his vote and voting against bringing Guantanamo Bay detainees to the United States. Hare voted in support of the Gingrey amendment to a military appropriations bill, H.R. 5822, that blocks all funding to house Gitmo detainees in the United States. Schilling said that he is gratified that Hare reversed himself and is now doing what is best for the people of his district.
"I think that it's great that Rep. Hare is following our lead in opposing Gitmo detainees being housed on U.S. soil," said Schilling. "Closing down Guantanamo Bay and bringing the detainees to Northwest Illinois was a terrible idea and I am glad that Rep. Hare has seen the light. My hope is that he also changes his position on supporting on taxpayer funded bailouts, cap and trade, and the rapid increase in government spending."

Rep. Hare initially supported bringing Gitmo detainees to Thomson Prison and even called opponents of the measure "fear mongers," going so far as to tell Chris Matthews that he was going to work to shut down Guantanamo Bay.

Schilling, a native of Rock Island, graduated from Alleman High School and attended Black Hawk College. Schilling, a local business owner and father of ten children, is the Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District in Illinois. Bobby is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real representation back to the 17th District. Earlier this year, Schilling conducted a 34-city "Bob's for Jobs" tour, where he met with voters and employers all across the 17th District.

Schilling Statement on Optometrists

07/29/2010
Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, issued the following statement on the Harkin amendment and it's effect on optometrists:

“While I disagree with the large majority of the recently passed healthcare law, I do support sections of the bill that end discrimination against optometrists, nurse practitioners, podiatrists and other specialists. These provisions will increase competition among health care providers and empower patients to seek out care from the doctor of their choice. I would not support repealing the Harkin amendment, and I will fight to keep it included in any other reforms passed while I am serving in office.”
